Questions about downloading videos
Which sites can I download from?
VK Video — vk.com and vkvideo.ru — Rutube, Dzen — dzen.ru — and Mail.ru Video — my.mail.ru: videos, clips and shorts. A Yandex Video link works too, when the video is on one of these sites. Paste a link to one video; playlists and whole channels are not downloaded.
In what quality?
Any the video has, up to 4K, as the author uploaded it; 2K and 4K are on the Pro plan. The file is an MP4 with H.264 and AAC: it plays on a phone, in WhatsApp and in any player. The video is not re-encoded. You can download the sound alone, as an M4A file.
Is there a limit on length?
Without Pro, a video up to 3 hours and a file up to 6 GB. On Pro the length has no limit, only the size of the file: up to 20 GB.
Do I need to sign up?
Yes: downloading needs an account. Sign in with Yandex or Google in a minute. Anybody can see what the video is and which qualities it has.
Where are the files kept?
Nowhere for long: a file is made for the request and deleted after 30 minutes. If somebody else asks for the same video in the same quality in that time, they get the ready file — the video is not downloaded twice.
What may I do with what I download?
Watch it yourself, keep your own videos, use videos with an open licence. Passing other people’s videos off as your own or posting them without the author’s permission is not allowed. Rights holders can write to us — the address is on the page for rights holders.
